How to care?

Knowing how to care for a wool dress is essential for any lover of this type of art, after all, care is necessary to maintain the beauty and health of the hair. With our care tips, you won't have to worry, just follow all the recommendations:

For girls who have beautiful curly locks, we have prepared an amazing post with several curly hair care tips - there are several amazing treatment options to keep your hair beautiful and super hydrated!

Washing:

One of the most important things to take care of your wool dreadlocks is to keep in mind that you should wash them frequently. This story that you shouldn't wash is a popular belief and it's totally wrong. Wash every time you feel the need, especially if your hair is oily.

As you can accumulate residue on your dreadlocks, it is not recommended to use conditioners and creams during washing. Our advice is to use only shampoo, giving preference to a product with anti-dandruff or anti-dandruff action.

To make washing easier, you can mix shampoo with water. In fact, even if you don't use dreadlocks, the shampoo you buy can be diluted with twice as much water and the action remains the same, saving money and damaging your hair even less.

When washing, lift the dreadlocks so that the dirt from the scalp comes out with the water and doesn't get stuck in the dreadlock. Never wash your hair before going to bed or late at night, as wool takes time to dry and if it gets wet it can smell bad and be subject to bacterial and fungal growth. Our advice is to always wash in the morning so you have all day to dry, try drying in the sun or use the dryer.

Not Day by Day:

White bumps on the scalp are common. Because the dreadlock is tight, it is normal for the bulbs to swell and eventually burst at the root. It is necessary to observe the frequency with which these white spots appear, if you remove them and they do not stop appearing, it is a sign that your hair does not have enough strength to continue with the weave and it is necessary to remove it so as not to weaken it even more.

An option to not remove it is to invest in a good vegetable oil or tonic to moisturize and strengthen the root. We recommend using Gota Dourada, but you can use whatever you find in cosmetic stores near your home. It is important to apply the tonic only on the root and be careful not to get inside the dreadlocks.

Before going to sleep:

Never sleep with your wool dreadlocks loose. Hold them loosely. Preferably wear a satin cap to prevent the wires from rubbing against the pillowcase. The satin pillowcase is also very welcome and is good even for those who don't wear dreadlocks.

How much does it cost #price

The price depends on your city and the professional you are going to hire to do it, after all, some professionals are more recognized than others. In general, if you only do one or two wool dreadlocks, you will pay around R$ 10 for each one. To make the whole hair the value can vary between R$ 100 and R$ 300. Now, if you are going to do it yourself at home, your only expense will be wool and elastics.

To do it at home, it is better to buy extra wool, instead of running out when you are almost done applying it to your hair.

Are there any risks? Damaging the hair?

Dreadlocks will not damage your hair as long as you take care of it the right way. You need to follow the care routine explained at the beginning of the post and don't let it stay on longer than recommended.

If you are worried about damaging your hair, our tip is to super moisturize the day before you put your dreadlocks in.

It's worth remembering that when removing dreadlocks, it's common for a lot of hair to fall out, but this is not a cause for fear or concern. Every day we lose strands of hair when we comb it, wash it or even when we don't move, strands fall out. It is a natural renewal, but when you wear dreadlocks for 3 months all those strands will fall out suddenly when you comb your hair for the first time. Keep in mind that these will be strands that would have fallen out every day in those three months. No need to despair!

How long does it last on average?

The wool dreadlock lasts about 3 months, but of course, it all depends on how you take care of it. It's a great option for those who have short hair and want to lengthen it or even for those who are passionate about needle dreadlocks, but are afraid of getting something permanent and end up regretting it. Wearing it for 3 months is a great way to see how it looks on you and then decide to go for a permanent one or change the color of the wool.

We do not recommend leaving it on for more than 3 months. Staying too long can weaken the strands, as the wool robs them of some of the hair's natural moisture, plus you run the risk of staying longer and forming natural dreadlocks at the roots of the hair.

Wool, Needle or Fake Dreadlocks: Which one to choose?

Knowing the difference between the different types of dreadlocks is essential to make the choice that meets your expectations. Dreadlocks made with yarn or wool are temporary and can only be used for 3 months. As you know, in this method the hair is covered with yarn or wool in the color of your choice.

It is the most suitable alternative for those who want to lengthen their hair, because with 5 centimeters of root it is already possible to do it. In addition, it is a good method for those who do not want to do something definitive that can ruin your hair.

The removable or fake dreadlock is also temporary for only 3 months. It is made with synthetic or natural hair, it gives the effect of a natural dreadlock, but without running the risk of doing something definitive and end up not liking the final result. Many people choose this option to see how it looks and then invest in needle dreadlocks.

Needle dreadlocks are crocheted and consist of tangling the threads thread by thread to make it firm, always placing the threads inside the dreadlock. This is the natural and fixed version, just use your hair. This method is suitable for those who want long-lasting dreadlocks and don't plan on taking them out anytime soon, because the older they get, the prettier they look. As the hair grows, the root forms dreadlocks and you can help with the maintenance at your hairdresser. The downside is that as it is fixed and gets in the way of the wires, when you want to remove it, the only alternative is to cut the wires very short.

How to Make Wool Dreadlocks: Easy Step by Step

Learning how to make wool dreadlocks is probably the part you've been waiting for, right? Our first recommendation is to go to a professional braider, but if you want to do it at home, the results are wonderful too! It does take a little extra patience, as it's easy to do but it's also time consuming. Some people can't finish the same day, so take enough time for this, preferably on a weekend when you don't have any commitments.

materials:

  • Wool of your choice. With R$30 you can buy about 8 skeins and it is usually enough.
  • Rubber bands/silicone rubber bands
  • Pente

Step by step:

  1. Start by separating your hair into small sections. On each strand make a braid. Use the silicone rubber band to tie the end of the braid.
  2. After braiding all the hair it's time to start making the dreadlocks.
  3. Cut 15 strands of wool 15 cm longer than the braid. If you want thicker dreadlocks use more strands of wool, thinner ones use less strands. Once started it is not possible to change the amount of wool.
  4. With the strands already cut, pass the wool through the root of the braid making a U-shape, as if you were tying the braid. Tie a tight knot.
  5. Now cover the braid by wrapping it all the way around. Wrap the whole braid and leave at least 5 cm of hair loose, this will make your life much easier when removing your dreadlocks.
  6. Take a strand and tie it at the bottom. Cut the ends of the dreadlocks.
  7. Do this procedure on all the hair.
