What is it? Tips!

Grunge was a movement of teenage musicians, in the late 80s, who wanted to create something different from the scene of the time, which was basically a lot of glam and hard rock.

they created songs with heavy lyrics, filled with anguish and sarcasm, and left aside the performance used by rockers in the presentations. They wanted to be themselves for the public..

And it was this natural and even careless vision that was also passed on to the grunge style of dress! They wanted to show that they didn't care a bit about other people's opinions.

The grunge look is mainly characterized by basic t-shirts, plaid shirts, ripped pants – which today we call destroyed – and well-worn sneakers (especially All Star ones) or leather boots.

The girls usually do a more produced look, with skirts, tights and vests, in addition to dying their hair in bright colors and abusing accessories such as choker chokers and sunglasses, and brightly colored makeup.

More than the super loose way of dressing and with many references gathered in a single look, the grunge style calls for a lot of attitude. Otherwise, productions will lack credibility.

Basic pieces of grunge style

Those who follow the grunge trend really like to mix textures, prints and varied pieces. Shorts over tights, plaid stripes and lots of different overlays.

Torn pants

The ripped pants started to be successful with the rise of Heavy Metal, but it started to make a lot more head of young people when Grunge appeared.

A look of this style without worn pants and with a rip at least is not recognized as “true”!

You can bet on rips in shorts and holes and cuts in pantyhose.

flannel plaid shirts

These are definitely the lovelies of this style! Anyone who looks at someone on the street in a plaid shirt soon realizes: it's grunge. If it's flannel then there's no doubt!

That's why this piece has become a symbol of the grunge look. And the coolest thing is that you can mix a plaid shirt with any piece underneath.

Did you know that the use of flannel shirts was not for nothing? they were theWarm potions to warm you up from Seattle's constant chill, hometown of grunge.

Tying the shirt at the waist is also the face of grunge fashion. Note that it's not a question of protection against the cold, it's a question of style!

Leather boots

The grunges inherited the taste for leather boots from the metalheads and used to use them in different looks. Despite the look being sloppy, the boots add a certain sophistication.

And just like flannel shirts, combat boots and boots were chosen for this look as they also insulate from the cold and humidity.

All Star

These sneakers are the faithful companions of grunge boys and girls! And it's not that clean and smelling one, no… The more shabby, the better.

There was a fashion for walking with All Star with the laces untied in the 90s. This made the look even more sloppy, which is what young people wanted.

stripped sweaters

Kurt Cobain was always parading, even at his shows, with old man sweaters. This has become a trend of this style and can be worn with shorts, pants or skirts.

Plaid skirts and dresses

If you thought that the plaid print was limited to flannel shirts, you are very wrong.

Round skirts, which can be mini or larger, and also high-waisted, appear with this irreverent print.

A t-shirt or cropped look great with plaid skirts. On top you can feel free to put a flannel of the same print, a leather jacket or even jeans.

Overlays

Ah, this style lets you do everything you'd like, but didn't have the courage (lol)! Bet on overlays to rock a grunge look.

T-shirts, shirts, jackets, strappy bra, put it all on top! And you can mix prints, that nothing will be over.

A cool tip is to layer shorts over ripped tights or fishnet stockings (which are the face of grunge fashion).

Putting a white t-shirt on top of a black one looks cool too!
