Grunge was a movement of teenage musicians, in the late 80s, who wanted to create something different from the scene of the time, which was basically a lot of glam and hard rock.
they created songs with heavy lyrics, filled with anguish and sarcasm, and left aside the performance used by rockers in the presentations. They wanted to be themselves for the public..
And it was this natural and even careless vision that was also passed on to the grunge style of dress! They wanted to show that they didn't care a bit about other people's opinions.
The grunge look is mainly characterized by basic t-shirts, plaid shirts, ripped pants – which today we call destroyed – and well-worn sneakers (especially All Star ones) or leather boots.
The girls usually do a more produced look, with skirts, tights and vests, in addition to dying their hair in bright colors and abusing accessories such as choker chokers and sunglasses, and brightly colored makeup.
More than the super loose way of dressing and with many references gathered in a single look, the grunge style calls for a lot of attitude. Otherwise, productions will lack credibility.
Basic pieces of grunge style
Those who follow the grunge trend really like to mix textures, prints and varied pieces. Shorts over tights, plaid stripes and lots of different overlays.

The ripped pants started to be successful with the rise of Heavy Metal, but it started to make a lot more head of young people when Grunge appeared.

These are definitely the lovelies of this style! Anyone who looks at someone on the street in a plaid shirt soon realizes: it's grunge. If it's flannel then there's no doubt!
That's why this piece has become a symbol of the grunge look. And the coolest thing is that you can mix a plaid shirt with any piece underneath.

Leather boots
