This classification is recent and therefore many curly ones have never even heard about this subject. Within each category there are other subdivisions: A, B and C. Let's find out how it works?

TYPE 2

Curly hair types 2 are wavy and fall between straight and curly. The strands form an S, but the hair is not bulky. Type 2A is the closest classification to straight hair, it has some waves but is not voluminous at all and has almost no definition.

The 2B starts with the waves already at the root, but like the 2A it has no definition or volume. 2C is what we commonly call curly hair and really is the closest to category 2 curly hair. The 2C tends to be oily at the roots and super dry at the ends, being the hair type that has the most frizz.

TYPE 3

Hair that is part of type 3 is more voluminous than type 2, more subject to frizz and in most cases is naturally dry hair. 3A is often confused with 2C as it is also curly. The 3A has more definition than the previous types, the curls are open and larger, while the shrinkage when drying is medium. It is the type of hair that suffers most from climate variations.

The 3B is much more defined being the famous β€œtonhonhoim” hair that forms the springs. They are voluminous and dry hair that has spiral-shaped curls.

The 3C also has a lot of definition, is dry and has more shrinkage than the 3B. Although it has definition, it is difficult to maintain it for many hours, so it requires some care to be modeled, as is the case with structured tapes and common tapes.

TYPE 4

Those who look at category 4 curly hair types think that the strands have a more rigid and thick texture, but in fact it is exactly the opposite. This type of hair is much more sensitive and thin, and therefore requires an extra dose of care. They are opaque threads, with few scales, dull and that break easily. Because they have few scales, the wires do not absorb hydration easily and are drier than other types.

4A is very close to 3C, but has more volume and less shine. The curls form the letter S when you stretch and are more closed. Curly Hair Types – How to Identify & 35 Ideas for Curls!

4B does not curl, its structure is more like the letter Z. It shrinks a lot from its normal size, it is denser and well defined.

Type 4C curls are very small and hardly get defined by themselves. It is necessary to do texturing frequently and they even shrink to more than 70% of the normal length.

I have more than one type. And now?

It is perfectly normal to have various types of curly hair on your head. Some people have 2 different types while others have 4. With textures it is possible to leave all the hair in harmony with a single shape, but keeping the different shapes is also very beautiful. For those who have more than one type of hair, care must be doubled and each part must be cared for in a different way.

Remember Yamasterol? It's an old-fashioned, yellowish cream that you've probably seen your grandmother use. A bottle of this cream costs less than R$8 and you can use it for texturing. Colorama shampoo is also old fashioned, but one of the best options for curly hair. The coconut shampoo cleans the hair without harming it and combines very well with the use of Yamasterol. The tip is always to use shampoo that does not have salt in the composition, as it steals hydration and leaves the hair even more dry.
